Hey Blues City Family!
Summer has arrived... which of course means so have the fans! As the days start to heat up, remember to take care of yourself and hydrate throughout the day! And for the love of God, don't stand in front of the fan for too long, we all want of piece of that amazing cool breeze! :-)
While we've got a lot poppin' in the gym, there are two pressing things I want to call out:
1) Class time is class time: Listen, this is a tough one for me, because I love that Blues City has become a safe space for so many of you to work on weaknesses; do bonus work to get stronger; and generally do the things that make you love working out. When I walk in our doors, I love seeing people helping each other figure out the right cues for a movement or hit a bonus workout together. I love it! But...
Class time is class time.
If you want to do your own thing, I fully support you, but it cannot be during our scheduled class time. If what you're doing can't be done in the confines of the Meat Shed (the little room off to the right), then it simply can't be done during a scheduled class time. Unfortunately, our space just isn't big enough for that. There are a couple other options though! 1) You can always take class with us! Our coaches are there and are more than happy to modify the workout to meet your needs - whether that's scaling down or scaling up 2) We have plenty of open gym hours that are specifically for this kind of thing or 3) If those two options don't work for you, just talk to me! I will go to great lengths to make the gym available to you during a time that works for your calendar and the gym's class schedule.
I know this may put a wrinkle in some of your plans. But I greatly appreciate you understanding and am excited to continue to see our classes at or near max capacity like we've been rolling with lately! That energy is awesome!
2) Memorial Day Murph: Yes, Murph is back. We've been training with Murph Prep Mondays for a few weeks now, and it all goes down on Monday, May 29 this year. For those of you who don't know, Murph is a workout in honor of Navy Lt. Michael Murphy and consists of a one-mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 squats, and another one-mile run. Many CrossFit affiliated gyms participate in Murph every year to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for this great nation.
Be sure to sign up on Push Press - we have two different time slots to complete this annual workout. Never done Murph? That's OK! This is the year to give a go!
That's all I got for now. Check out the below for other great things happening in our community. And as always, don't forget to sign up for a class time and we'll see you in the gym!

And they hit the floor TODAY! Send good vibes and all the cheers their way
As you know, we have another team with their eye on qualifying for the CrossFit Games again this year. They've put in the hours and done the work, now it's GO TIME! Blues City Gold is on their way to semifinals in Pasadena, CA. A huge shout out and congratulations to Morgan, Rachel, Seth and Chris for repping our gym and making us all SO DANG PROUD!
Be sure to watch them compete all weekend here.
Every year we get together with our friends from the other side of the parking lot for a friendly competition and general camaraderie.
This year, we're going head-to-head through Ultimate Frisbee. We need everyone to come out to play, eat, cheer and have a good time (of course).

A huge shoutout to our Member of May, Daelen Morris!
In the words of Stephen-dinosaur bones-Wallace: "Daelen is Stupid Strong." And coming from him, that's really saying something!
When he first joined Blues City, and like so many of us, Daelen struggled with the cardio aspect of CrossFit. Finishing a workout in the time cap with the intended stimulus was tough. But he's spent these past few months dialing in on his aerobic capacity and working on getting his gymnastic movements a little tighter. Today he's killing workouts and quickly moving toward RX.
Beyond that, ask anyone at the 5:30am class and they'll be first to tell you that Daelen is one of the nicest guys you'll meet... even at the crack of dawn... and he's impressively consistent... even at the crack of dawn.
If you're feeling squirly and want to get up early, you can find Daelen nearly every day at the 5:30am class. Give him a much deserved high-five!

Hey Blues City Family! Wow! What a summer! It's not unusual to see a dip over the summer months in class attendance, and while we've seen more weekend trips, overall, this summer has been rock-steady. A huge shout-out to you all for keeping that consistency. A quick reminder not to forget to check-in when you take class. Pro-tip: you can sign in via the app on your phone - you don't even have to use the iPad! There are two important things in this email: Member Satisfaction Survey - This is...
